3 Simple Tips to Quit Making Excuses

3 simple tips to quit making excusesOne big problem I have is making excuses. I hear people give tips about how to quit, but never listen, and then say I have no time or I am tired, and because of that, I find that I don’t end up doing the things that I want to do. It needs to stop because it isn’t the way that anyone should live. I feel that I am happy, most of the time, but then I feel like I could be doing so much more. I could be spending more of my time doing things, rather than thinking of why I cannot do them today.

So I thought I would share with you my tips to get past the excuses and to start moving forward.

  1. Stop saying you will do it tomorrow.
Why are you saying that? Is it because you are genuinely busy, or do you just feel that tomorrow is a new day, so just do it then? For me, I never start something new tomorrow. Tomorrow, I will just say that I will do it tomorrow, and it becomes a cycle. I haven decided that the cycle needs to be broken, so you should too!
  2. Set aside time to do what you want to do.
Whether it is starting an exercise routine, studying, writing, or whatever you keep making excuses for, just set aside some time in you day to do it. If you can find even just 20 or 30 minutes to do what it is you want to do, you will start forming a habit, and it will become easier over time. I often say I don’t have the time to do the things I want to do, like writing or learning something new, yet I find the time to watch a few episodes on Netflix each night. So why not give up half of that time for doing what I say I don’t have time for, and then still having some time to watch the newest episode of my favourite TV shows.
  3. Stick to it.
Once you have established some time in your schedule for what it is you want to do, stick to it every day. By making it a part of your daily routine, it will start to feel more natural and you will find that you need it in your life. By sticking to it, giving up that extra episode a night on Netflix won’t feel like a sacrifice, instead it will give you more freedom to do what you want to do.

These steps may seem fairly simple, but in my opinion, making change can be easy if we do not overthink it. I need to make a change, so I will start now. I hope these tips can encourage others to do the same.

New Year’s Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions

It’s that time of year when everyone is doing their best to stick to their New Year’s Resolutions. New Year has come and gone, and to be honest, I am glad 2015 is over. It was a year with a lot of ups and downs and I am happy to say that 2016 has started off with a lot of problems solved. This is one reason why I have not done any blogging for the last month, plus I went away and had less time than I had expected. I am looking forward to a more positive year, hopefully with exciting things to come.

Here are my goals for the year, and I hope that I can incorporate them into my life more.

  1. Exercise more
I always tell myself that I will start exercising at the beginning of each month. Sometimes I start and don’t complete it, and sometimes I just don’t start. This year I want to work hard and making myself happy and healthy, and I know that exercise has so many benefits to get there.
  2. Eat a healthy, balanced diet
I love food. I love cooking food and trying new food, but I am a bit of a junk food addict too. I don’t eat it as much as I used to, but if I know there are some chips or chocolate in the house, I will make sure that it isn’t there for long.
  3. Meet new people
Living in a different country is hard and can feel isolating. I have a few friends here and that’s great, but I find that with different schedules and lifestyles, it isn’t always convenient to catch up as often as we would like. I want to meet new people who have children my daughter’s age, to also give her more of a social life too.
  4. Become more confident
I find that when I am away from my country, I am less confident. It is because I don’t speak the language as much as I would like, as well as sometimes feeling out of place. I want to find ways to pull myself out of my comfort zone and build my confidence back up.
  5. Read more
I love reading when I have free time. I find that reading helps me relax and over the last six months, we have had quite a bit of stress at home. In the last few months, I made the time to read more again and I felt that I was able to deal with the stress much better. It is a way for me to take a break from what is on my mind and daily life. I am setting myself a goal of reading 20 books in 2016… I am already on book #2 (The Girl on the Train).

So what about you? Did you plan any New Year’s Resolutions?

If so, good luck!!

My Christmas Wishlist

I find that as I get older, it is harder to pinpoint what I really want for Christmas or my birthday. To me, it is not really important anymore, especially now that I have a daughter and I would much rather see the excitement on her face than mine.

So when I was asked what I want for Christmas, I actually felt stumped. For the last few days I have been thinking about it, and I have come up with a few things that I need, and a few things that I want.

Things that I need:
– New clothes – I live in Bali, and while it is nice to wear summer clothes all year round, it means needing to buy more. I tend to stock up when I go back to Australia, as I find that they are better quality than here.

– New make-up – since I last traveled back to Australia, a lot of my make-up is nearly finished. The basics I usually buy here in Indonesia, but I find that there is just more choice back home.

– A stress-free Christmas – the last few months for us has been very hectic and a bit stressful. I know that this isn’t something tangible, but I would really like a happy Christmas, filled with special memories.

Things that I want:

– Some jewellery – If my husband decides to buy me something shiny, then I am not complaining.

–  Cormoran Strike Series (Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkworm, Career of Evil) – When I read books that I really enjoy on my Kindle, I feel the need to have a paper copy too.

Digital SLR camera – This is something we have spoken about getting for a while, but it just never seems like the right time. Hopefully soon though!

I have included a free printable Christmas Wishlist for you too to make it easy to let your loved ones know what you would like for Christmas

Photo Challenge – Day 30 – Self Portrait

photo challenge

Day 30 of the photo challenge, and I did it and survived…here is my self portrait to prove it. It has been an interesting 30 days, but I am glad I set myself this challenge and that I stuck to it.

I enjoy challenges, and I often get off to a good start, but then I tend to lose whatever spark or drive I had and I stop. It is usually something like exercising, doing yoga or eating well, but I often fall back into my comfortable routine.

What have I learned in the last 30 days of doing this photo challenge? Well, a few things. The first is that I enjoy blogging, and this has got me into the habit of writing and putting effort into something that I enjoy every day. Second is that, while I enjoy it, it isn’t easy. Third, finding the balance to juggle this, family, free time, working, etc is a challenge, but possible.

I hope that you have enjoyed my photo challenge and it has helped you learn a bit more about me along the way.

My Top 10 Christmas Movies of All Time

Blogmas Christmas Movies

What is Christmas time without watching some classic Christmas movies? I love the build up to Christmas, and movies is a part of that, so once December has come, I like to catch up with some of the movies I enjoyed as a child.

Honestly, I’m not really a fan of new Christmas movies that come out because I find most of them to be corny. The ones in the list though are what I grew up with as a child and in my teens, so I tend to just watch the same movies each year to get into the holiday spirit.

So here is my Top 10 list of Christmas Movies. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

  1. Home Alone
  2. The Muppet Christmas Carol
  3. Love Actually
  4. The Nightmare Before Christmas
  5. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
  6. Meet Me in St. Louis
  7. Elf
  8. Miracle on 34th Street
  9. Frosty the Snowman
  10. Mickey’s Christmas Carol

Like I said before, I usually watch the same movies each year, so I have created a checklist to keep track of what I have watched, as I tend to lose track of myself being a mum of a one-year old.

I have included it here you your to download for free!

Photo Challenge – Day 29 – Something Pink

photo challengeDay 29 of the photo challenge, and we are almost done my friends. Today is something pink, and at the moment, my favourite pink item is my daughter’s new dress.

This was something that my husband and I bought for her when we went away for a couple of days for out anniversary. She is almost one and a half, and she is at that stage where she is noticing a lot more about herself, including what she is wearing. I put the dress on her the afternoon that we got back, and she seemed quite pleased with herself in it.

Every time she wears it, she looks like the sweetest thing I have ever seen.

What is your favourite colour, and what about your favourite item?

Welcome to Blogmas

Welcome to Blogmas

Over the course of December, like many other bloggers, I will be posting Christmas related posts. I will probably not be doing one every day, but I plan to post at least twelve posts over the month, so around three a week, sometimes more if possible.

I look forward to taking part in Blogmas with all of you!

Photo Challenge – Day 28 – Inspirational

photo challenge

With just a few days left of the photo challenge, I am here writing about something inspirational. To me, inspiration comes from my husband. He is inspiration and motivation to me, even though I may not tell him so all the time.

We have been through many challenges together, and we have had some with good outcomes, and some with bad. I have a tendency to focus on the negatives, which is another reason why I began this blog; to make myself look at things in a positive light more often than I do. My husband is optimistic, kind and helpful, and I often lean on him for support.

He helps me and our family through every obstacle, and he does it all because he loves us, just like we love him.

Photo Challenge – Day 27 – Childhood Memory

photo challenge

Today is the 27th day of my photo challenge, and it is about childhood memories. For me, most of my childhood memories are of playing with my younger brother and my friends. Like most people, I have many good memories, and some bad ones. Now when I think about childhood memories, I think of my daughter, and how I want her to be able to look back on her childhood and have those happy memories.

Sometimes it feels easy to do that, because you look at this amazing child and see how happy she is. Then there are days when it feels harder, because of daily pressures and commitments of daily life.

I hope more than anything, when she looks back on her childhood memories, that they are full of happiness, laughter and joy.

Photo Challenge – Day 26 – Clouds

photo challenge

The 26th photo challenge post, and we are in the homestretch. Today is about clouds, and I think that it appropriate, given the weather here at the moment.

Bali is a tropical island, so it is subject to the wet and dry seasons. Usually the wet season begins around October, and it finally cools down a little after a period of really oppressive heat. This year it is happening later, and because of that the weather has been pretty unbearable at times.

Last night was finally the first time that it rained, and the air was much cooler as a result. This morning, was a little cloudy, as you can see in the photo, but right now it is sunny again. Hopefully the rain continues, because when we are in what should be the wet season, and it doesn’t rain, it becomes very uncomfortable.

What is your favourite type of weather?
